FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BFVG, successful in Stockland Community Grant application

Bundaberg Fruit and Vegetable Growers Cooperative Limited (BFVG) plays an important role in encouraging consumption of fresh fruit and vegetables and to broaden community knowledge and understanding of seasonal produce.

With support from the Stockland Community Grant Program BFVG will now be able to provide ‘Your Local Produce’ Pop Up Market on a monthly basis outside the premises on Enterprise Street with opportunity for greater frequency according to demand.

The local Bundaberg Men's Shed has been engaged to build the cart from recycled materials with completion expected for mid-August. This will allow the Organisation to sell farm fresh produce sourced from local producers direct to the public. The cart will operate according to supply and demand and may feature up to three commodities at a time.

The Cart is also an opportunity to provide specific information on the produce being sold with storage details, recipes and suggestions for increasing the consumption of fruit and vegetables also available.

BFVG’s Industry Services Officer, Kylie Jackson acknowledges the Grant has provided a greater link between community and the Horticulture sector,  "this as a great opportunity to invite the general community to our organisation, to learn about the range of produce we grow, some of the best ways to eat it and how to store it for an extended shelf life" Ms Jackson says.
